Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Safely administer medicines according to Organisational Medicines Management Policy and local Standard Operating Procedures
  • Supervise and support all staff in the process of medicines administration
  • Identify opportunities for development through the individual performance review process and take relevant action to achieve objectives
  • Partake in clinical supervision in line with organisational policy
  • To supervise, administer and supply medication as necessary, observing effects and side effects, regularly updating knowledge of commonly prescribed medicines
  • To deal with the storage and administration of drugs in accordance with legal requirements, local policies and procedures
  • To ensure that the management of all medicines, including controlled drugs, is in accordance with appropriate medicines legislation, standard operating procedures and policies
  • To contribute to, and participate in, clinical audits as appropriate
  • To assist in resolving problems involving the prescribing, administration, and operational aspects of medicines management
  • Identify potential problems regarding the lack of availability of medicines for individual prescriptions and stock medication, and where appropriate, seeking advice on suitable alternatives or agreed delivery timetable
  • To assist in ensuring that systems and processes for providing release medication and the management of 'in possession' medicines are safe and effective
  • Assist in the management of repeat prescriptions
  • Provide advice to patients about their medicines
  • Assist in the training of other healthcare staff, in medicines management, as required
  • Complete medicines reconciliations for patients and assess patients' own medication for re-use
  • Support pharmacist-led clinics by identifying patients suitable for medicines-use reviews and updating clinic waiting lists where appropriate.
  • Work with the physical health team in providing a See and Treat service to patients

  • Experience of developing relationships with external agencies and organisations

  • To be responsible for own continuing professional development in order to continue to update pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge/experience of SystemOne
