Job Description

CES Service (2 days)

NHS England have newly commissioned a national service development to provide treatment for complications related from excess weight (CEW) in children and young people.

In NW England there will be two CEW MDT hubs (one based in Manchester and one in Liverpool) covering the population from Lancashire and South Cumbria, Cheshire and Mersey side and Greater Manchester.

Royal Manchester Children's hospital (RMCH) is establishing a CEW multidisciplinary team to assess and treat obese children and the related severe health complications.

RMCH is a tertiary children's hospital that provides regional and supra-regional services to include most clinical paediatric specialties. Physiotherapy is a well-recognised and respected service and as such are core members to many multi-disciplinary clinical teams.

We are therefore recruiting to this new service a physiotherapist to work as part of a collaborative CEW multidisciplinary team assessing and treating children with complex obesity and its related severe health complications using innovative and new strategies in paediatric care. The physiotherapist will work collaboratively with physiotherapists from the national network of CEW services to develop effective pathways of care for these patients.

The team will also provide advice regionally for the care of patients and be expected to deliver education to regional centers to help them establish more local services that can cater for their population. Services will be run through a combination of face to face and virtual contact to ensure good uptake of management strategies and facilitate improved care.

The MDT team will also be collaborating with other commissioned centers to share knowledge and experience to improve outcomes for patients nationally.

Musculoskeletal (3 days)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced children's physiotherapist with an interest in MSK for childhood muscle and joint conditions and injuries. This post combines an operational team lead role as well as providing specialist physiotherapy management of children and young people with chronic conditions in liaison with community colleagues. As an HCPC registered health professional, you'll have gained extensive clinical experience with children and young people working in a children's hospital and/or community setting. Confidence in delivering evidence-based physiotherapy to children and young people with MSK conditions is essential.

As the lead haemophilia physiotherapist in a specialist tertiary centre for paediatric haematology and transfusion you will support outpatient clinics, day cases and the walk-in centre by confidently managing patients with acute joint or muscle bleeding episodes. The physiotherapist works closely within the multidisciplinary team on a routine basis, providing MSK assessments and promoting physical activity alongside prophylactic bleed management to ensure optimal MSK health. There are excellent established links with physiotherapists nationally where there are opportunities for regular peer support, networking, and training.

A qualification in hydrotherapy is desirable to deliver hydrotherapy to children and young people with complex presentations in our state-of-the-art hydrotherapy area.

You will provide education, advice, and support to patients and parents/carers and be able to respond to and resolve complaints professionally and effectively excellent communication skills.

You'll be a flexible and resourceful individual assisting with cross cover across the wider children's physiotherapy service. You will have line management responsibility providing feedback, support and training to junior staff, students, and assistants.

You will have a proven track record leading service developments and quality initiatives. With excellent organisational and problem-solving skills you'll thrive in a busy environment prioritising a busy workload and coping well under pressure.

Please note that participation in the physiotherapy respiratory or orthopaedic (depending on previous experience) out of hour's service is part of the role.

You will be supported by experienced clinical leads offering clinical and professional advice and feedback supporting your professional and personal development.
