Job Description

Due to the development of off site Ophthalmology services, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. We are looking for 15x Assistant Ophthalmic Science practitioners to help run clinics at various sites across Greater Manchester.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the leading Trust for teaching, research and specialist services in the North West of England. We provide an extensive range of district general hospital services to the local population of central Manchester and tertiary and specialist services to patients from across the North West and beyond.

We are looking for motivated individuals to work as part of one of largest Ophthalmic Imaging, Angiography and Diagnostics teams in the UK. Ophthalmic Imaging is a rapidly expanding department undertaking a wide range of techniques, your role as an assistant will include the following:
  • Optical Coherence Tomography Examinations
  • Humphrey Visual Field Testing
  • Visual Acuity Testing
  • Intraocular Pressure testing (Icare)
  • Patient Dilation
  • Genrel patient care
  • Administration Tasks

This is a great opportunity to learn new skills, in a stimulating environment with high levels of support from an experienced and committed team of professionals. You must be flexible, have good attention to detail with a track record of working well in team setting. Experience of working in an ophthalmic unit would be beneficial.

The successful candidate as part of their role will be required to work regularly across sites at any of our satellite clinics under the guidance of a member of the senior team. Use of a car would be advantageous but isn't essential.

In return we will provide a comprehensive induction programme and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

Roles are:

15 x 37.5 hours per week

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant/s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. The amount of £26.85(standard disclosure) or £43.85 (enhanced disclosure) which will be deducted from salary, in the first 3 months of employment. If you wish to withdraw once a DBS application has commenced you will be still liable for payment.
