Job Description

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS clearance and as a result, you will be required to pay the associated fee of £40.00. This fee will be deducted from your second months salary.

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • 1.Masters level degree in pharmacy. 2. Post-graduate preregistration year. 3. Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council. 4. Completed Certificate (Year 1) of Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice and studying for completion of year 2 or completed equivalent qualification as assessed by the interview panel. For candidates who have not completed year 2 of the diploma an academic reference will be sought in addition to the two standard references.

Desirable criteria
  • Applypleted year 1 and year 2 of Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice)*. 2.MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)*. 3.Qualified and registered as an Independent prescriber. 4.Risk management training. 5.Professional and final accuracy checking. 6. Member of the faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards)


ExperienceEssential criteria
  • 1.Moderate post-registration hospital experience including prescription screening in inpatients/outpatients, medicines reconciliation, medicines information, experience of preparative services either TPN/chemotherapy. 2. Experienced clinical pharmacist who has covered a range of specialities. Medicine including elderly care, acute medicine, and including specialist medicine and Surgery including general surgery and other surgical specialities 3. Documentation in medical notes. 4. Writing reports 5. Writing or assisting in writing drug policies and guidelines/PGD development. 6. Evidence of having conducted a clinical audit.

Desirable criteria
  • 1.Recent post-registration hospital experience, ideally including previous experience in a teaching hospital and experience of more than one hospital. 2. Experienced clinical pharmacist (at band 7) including one or more of the following neurosciences, paediatrics, critical care, renal, transplant, oncology, haematology 3. Evidence of having written pharmaceutical and/or educational publications. 4. Experience as a personal tutor to a range of staff groups. 5. Drug expenditure analysis and reporting. 6. Horizon scanning. 7. Ability to take initiative and lead on projects including change management.


KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • 1.Good clinical knowledge of drugs and therapeutic trends within general medicine and surgery. 2.Knowledge of NICE and NPSA guidance and subsequent examples of local implementation 3. Knowledge of Health care systems and NHS changes. 4. Computer literate with experience of Word, Powerpoint and Excel 5. Familiar with the use of a range of visual aids for teaching. 6. Pharmacy computer systems training.


SkillsEssential criteria
  • 1. Good organisation skills/time management. 2. Able to prioritise workload and target efforts appropriately 3. Self motivated and enthusiastic. 4. Good written and verbal communication skills. 5. Able to give oral presentations appropriate to the level of the audience including students 6. Able to produce written reports. 7. Good consultation skills. 8. Proven ability to influence and negotiate with all grades of staff. 9. Able to work well in a team 10. Ability to listen and act on direction from senior pharmacists 11. Ability to review the pharmaceutical care of patients in a reasonable time frame including medicines reconciliation

Desirable criteria
  • 1. Ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure and to deadlines. 2. Able to produce written support materials for training. 3. Proven ability to teach and train a range of staff groups.
