Job Description

Senior Clinical Fellow in Pleural Medicine (Locally Employed Doctor)

Thoracic Oncology Directorate, Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior fellowship position in Lung Cancer within the Thoracic Oncology Directorate based at Wythenshawe Hospital. The positions are suited to respiratory trainees who have completed their CCT or equivalent in respiratory medicine and wish to specialise further in thoracic oncology. Candidates in their final year of specialist training will also be considered for the position.

The post is available commencing October 2021

The team has access to a state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment centre to provide autofluorescence, radial and linear endobronchial ultrasound, photodynamic therapy and navigational bronchoscopy. The pleural team provides an indwelling pleural catheter and medical thoracoscopy service.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with the award winning RAPID Lung Cancer Programme which is fully compliant with the optimal lung cancer pathway. They will also be involved in delivering the Manchester Lung Health Check Screening Programme. We work as part of a large multidisciplinary team and there will be the opportunity to gain further experience in rigid bronchoscopy/airway management with our thoracic surgical colleagues and gain experience in medical/radiation oncology.

The Unit has a reputation for clinical & translational research and has close ties to the NIHR Clinical Research Facility and the MCRC, Manchester Institute and Cancer Research UK's Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence. The post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to build on their research portfolio and participate in clinical trials.
