Job Description

Main duties of the job
  • To provide appropriate structured psychological interventions to people with severe and/or very complex mental health problems (and their families), many of whom will be suffering with personality disorders and/or psychoses, within the Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs).
  • To harness and support the psychological skills of other team members in the CMHT by providing supervision, teaching, consultation, opportunities for co-working, and active participation in Care Programme Approach and other multi-disciplinary forums.
  • To contribute to the provision of rapid psychological assessments of
    service-users with complex mental health problems.
  • To provide advice on psychological aspects of risk assessment and positiverisk -taking.
  • To develop psychological formulations of service users' complex mental health problems so as to aid the team's input and management of these difficulties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Service and Trust policies and procedures.

As part of a full multi-disciplinary team, the successful applicant will work within an integrated team of psychologists, psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and community support workers.

The post holder will be line-managed by the CMHT team leader and will receive regular clinical supervision from the Senior Clinical Psychologist. In addition to individual clinical supervision, the post-holder will be part of a close-knit, professional network of clinical psychologists working within Salford's Secondary Mental Health Services.

The psychology team values and endeavours to identify creative and novel ways to optimise provision for service users and the MDT, with scope for service development opportunities.

The team are committed to supporting and providing opportunities for continuing professional development and helping staff to reach their full potential. Psychologists within the team have previously accessed trainings in reflective practice, Behavioural Family Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR and Cognitive Analytic approaches. The post-holder will also have access to the therapy modality interest groups across the trust and a Cognitive Analytic informed study group.
