Job Description

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is investing in and expanding its Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery services. We are looking to recruit five substantive consultant general surgeons with specialty interests in benign upper GI, abdominal wall reconstruction or benign HPB surgery.

The Lake and Peak District National Parks are within easy reach, and the affluent suburbs of north Cheshire and south Lancashire are an easy commute.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), one of the UK's largest Acute Trusts employing over 20,000 personnel. There are five Consultant General Surgery appointments available across three of our hospitals; Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe (WTWA) and North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH).

Our vision is to combine our surgical units to have one cohesive team of dynamic, motivated and progressive general surgeons, all with their own subspecialty interests, covering the three acute sites. These new posts will be General Surgery posts with specialist interests who will join our existing teams over three sites to help provide comprehensive General Surgical services across the MFT hospitals. We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic individuals who want to help develop the General Surgery service in MFT.

We are looking for:
  • four substantive consultant general surgeons with specialty interests in benign upper GI, abdominal wall reconstruction or benign HPB surgery
  • note that we have advertised separately for two additional substantive colorectal surgeons as we are also expanding that service

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant/s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. The amount of £26.85(standard disclosure) or £43.85 (enhanced disclosure) which will be deducted from salary, in the first 3 months of employment. If you wish to withdraw once a DBS application has commenced you will be still liable for payment.
