Division of Gynaecology ( Urogynaecology )

Clinical Scientist Band 7

The Warrell Unit is the largest specialist urogynaecology unit in the United Kingdom, with 5 full time subspecialist urogynaecology consultants and a large multidisciplinary team of specialist nurses, physiotherapists, surgeons and trainees. We provide subspecialist urogynaecology services to the whole of Greater Manchester, as well as receiving tertiary referrals from all over the country, and are commissioned as a specialist unit for women with mesh complications. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual who is self-motivated, but has the skills and attributes to work well within a highly specialised team. You will work as a key member of a passionate team that cares for women with pelvic floor and bladder problems. We also provide lower GI measurements to male patients who are referred in from throughout the region.

As a clinical scientist in urogynaecology, you'll help to diagnose urinary and bowel problems and plan the treatment of our patients with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction. Alongside the lead clinical scientist, you will participate in the measurements service within the Warrell Unit, prepare and use various highly technical, mechanical and electronic instruments and devices to measure various clinical parameters and produce interpretive reports on the range of tests undertaken. Teaching and research are also an integral part of this role.

Evidence of interest in/experience of research is essential, as is knowledge of laboratory information systems and general aptitude and interest in information technology.

There are numerous opportunities for research and development with plans for expansion and development of several key services.

The clinical focus of your role will be lower GI investigations (including endoanal ultrasound and anorectal manometry), urodynamics (including video urodynamics) and neurophysiology testing. Our patients include women with pelvic floor dysfunction, and women who have sustained a childbirth injury.

The department is committed to training with key consultants with regional and national training roles in the specialty of urogynaecology. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will contribute heavily to the national courses hosted each year by the Warrell Unit.

Regular departmental seminars are held and there are teaching and mentoring opportunities both within the department and via links with the University of Manchester.

Applications are invited for this key post within the Urogynaecology team. You should have completed or be undertaking a formal post graduate training programme approved as appropriate for registration and have obtained or be on track to obtain HCPC registration on completion of the training programme or be eligible to obtain HCPC registration via the equivalence route.

Clinical liaison and advisory duties will be performed under supervision of an experienced practitioner until the post holder is state registered.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week.
