The Cellular Pathology department at MFT has a crucial role in underpinning the changes to healthcare in the Greater Manchester region identified by Healthier Together, Greater Manchester Devolution and NHS Service Improvement. As a major centre involved in these changes we are actively recruiting Biomedical Scientists across the service.

This post is for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist to work solely within the Electron Microscopy service which is one of the largest and busiest in the country and forms part of the wider Histopathology department based at the Oxford Road site.

You will have a primary focus on performing ultrastructural reviews and communicating their findings to Consultant Histopathologists but will also have a wide range of supervisory and managerial responsibilities.

You will:
  • Be registered by HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Hold a relevant MSc or equivalent qualification
  • Hold an IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Ultrastructural Pathology or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience in Electron Microscopy
  • Be competent in performing ultrastructural reviews of diagnostic pathology specimens, particularly renal. However further training will be provided once in post to support your development.

In addition you will:
  • Have an understanding & experience of ISO 15189 standards and be able to support the service in maintaining accreditation.
  • Be able to see why accuracy and attention to detail is essential for the role.
  • Have extensive experience in technical aspects of service provision in EM.
  • Be able to plan and organise work effectively to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Be able to lead a team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff.
  • Be able to carry out the day to day management of staff, providing technical and scientific advice.
  • Play a key role in training and development.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and build and maintain working relationships.
  • Be able to adapt and develop new ideas to improve the level of service provided.
