Job Description

Senior Clinical Fellow in Simulation (Locally Employed Doctor)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department Team at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We are offering a 12-month post combining the provision of medical education and clinical emergency care.

Manchester is a great place to live; a vibrant cosmopolitan city which is famous for its night life and musical heritage. There is a full range of cultural experiences to enjoy.

It is surrounded by areas of great natural beauty for days-out and weekends away. North Wales, the Lakes, Derbyshire and Yorkshire are within easy striking distance.

Wythenshawe Hospital is a very short commute from the leafy suburbs of Didsbury, Chorlton and Trafford. Easy routes to the hospital can be made by car, on the nearby motorway network, by tram and on safe cycle routes through parks and along the river on the trans-pennine trail.

The successful candidates will work in a modern Emergency Medicine department which treats a mixed (Adults and Paediatric) population gaining skills and competencies towards preparation for FRCEM and starting a career as an emergency medicine consultant. The post holder will also have dedicated time to design and execute an insitu patient simulation programme both within the department and hospital wide.

Suitable teaching and a consultant led journal club are delivered weekly during the protected teaching time, and trainees would be encouraged to take suitable managerial and administrative responsibilities. The department will also support and encourage the simulation fellow to attend a formal teaching course and gain a formal qualification in medical based education. The post also offers an opportunity to work with the simulation team in the dedicated sim centre at Wythenshawe hospital.

The simulation fellow will have a named educational supervisor who will guide, support and assist their training, and would appraise the trainee at least twice a year.
