Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • •Educated to GCSE level or equivalent


ExperienceEssential criteria
  • •Experience in dealing with members of the public •Working as a team member •Working with indirect supervision •Experience of IT packages

Desirable criteria
  • •Working with individuals with a disability / illness including assisting with personal care activities •Working in health / caring setting •Working with physiotherapists and/or occupational therapists •Working in project groups on service development •Contribution to the development of a learning environment •Hands on experience of moving and handling patients


KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • •Knowledge of the role of confidentiality within healthcare •Understanding of customer service •Self-directed learning

Desirable criteria
  • •Knowledge of physical disability •Knowledge of how to use adaptive equipment to help those with physical disability •Knowledge of the Trust priorities •Knowledge of the role of the profession •Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management •Evidence of participation in personal / professional development activities


SkillsEssential criteria
  • •Ability to use a range of communication skills including, but not limited to building rapport, persuasion, motivation, explanation and education •Ability to work independently but also collaboratively within the MDT •Ability to follow instructions/directions regarding tasks assigned •Good observation skills •Able to report on patient related activities accurately both verbally and in writing •Skills in managing work pressures •Able to effectively organise own time and manage own caseload •Seek guidance appropriately •Ability to use computer software effectively •Literacy and numeracy skills •Administrative and computer skills •Good organisational skills •Excellent inter-personal skills

Desirable criteria
  • •Dealing with inappropriate behaviour •Able to adjust style of communication for those with communication difficulties e.g. hearing loss •Managing resources, e.g. equipment stock levels •Basic IT skills including the use of Microsoft office and e-mail •Service promotion •Skilled in moving and handling patients


Additional RequirementsEssential criteria
  • The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent. •Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses •Committed to personal and team development •To assist with treatment, e.g. balance training, gait re-education, stair assessment, hydrotherapy

  • •Willing to take on responsibility and coordination role
