Job Description

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide medical input to the South Trafford Locality (Central and South CMHTs) This is a community based post with daytime cover and on call at the Moorside Unit, Trafford General Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
They will attend ward rounds, conduct reviews and create management plans for patients on the wards. They will chair ward rounds and make decisions about patient care in the absence of the consultant, seeking advice from the covering consultant where appropriate. They will be involved in the preparation of reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and may be required to attend the hearings as the medical representative. They will supervise junior medical staff (trainees) within the inpatient setting when the consultant is absent, seeking advice from covering consultant where appropriate. This includes two FY1 doctors and two trainee doctors (GPST/CT), one from each GA inpatient team as well as the daytime cover doctor on the inpatient unit.

Where possible the post holder will be encouraged to attend board rounds. They will review and authorise discharge summaries as required. They maybe involved in managerial duties.



Person specification

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Section 12 approved or eligibility for Section 12 approval


Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych part 1 or 2 or equivalent


Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Three years' experience on a psychiatry training scheme.
  • Experience of community psychiatry


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of MDT working in the general adult population
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act


Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of MCA and DOLS


Training And Teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of audit and research.
  • Experience in teaching different professional groups including medical students


Personal Skills
Essential criteria
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to personal development


Desirable criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to inter-agency working
