We are looking for pharmacists with previous hospital experience and the necessary skills to work in one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK. You will form an integral part of the pharmacy team and wider MDT, playing an essential role in optimising patient care and medicines use. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work as an active team member as well as on your own initiative. You must be motivated to provide high quality care, improve the service and identify areas requiring service development to ensure patients' needs are met.

In return, you can expect a varied and challenging role with opportunities to develop and grow. We are a supportive department and encourage individuals to use their initiative to improve the standard of care we provide. We promote the development of our pharmacists in areas such as completing the prescribing qualification and use of the advanced service framework to inform an individual's PDP. As a department we recognise the importance of our staff's well-being and actively promote a positive work-life balance.

We welcome applications from GPhC registered pharmacists with a clinical diploma and those who have completed their first year of the diploma. As part of the interview process, we will discuss your preferred post(s).

First rotation will be Medicines Optimisation (MO)

This role will be based with the MO team at Wythenshawe hospital. The post holder will
  • provide a Medicines Information service to ensure that accurate, evaluated and timely information is provided to internal and external enquirers including patients, GPs, community pharmacists, CCGs and members of the general public, to the standards as required by UK Medicines Information, facilitating optimal patient care.
  • participate in the development, review and maintenance of the Trust medicines formulary and treatment guidelines and Patient Group Directions (PGDs) to facilitate the safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines within the Trust, in conjunction with the Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist
  • have a ward based clinical commitment

First rotation will be Cardiology & Transplant and Cardiac Surgery

MFT's cardiac centre (Manchester Heart Institute) provides cardiology and cardiac surgery services to a population of 3.5 million people with tertiary services run from both the Wythenshawe site and the Manchester Royal Infirmary site. In addition to tertiary cardiac services, MFT is one of only two centres in the UK to provide heart and lung surgery, transplant, and specialized respiratoryECMO(extra corporeal membrane oxygenation) under one roof. The transplant service is run from the Wythenshawe site and offers heart and lung transplant operations for the whole of the North West of England.

This stimulating role will allow you to gain experience of this clinical specialty, provide high quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy services to the directorate and develop your skills supporting the directorate lead pharmacist.

First rotation will be Complex Health (Medicine)

This post is an ideal opportunity for pharmacists developing a specialist interest in medicine. You will be expected to deliver high quality clinical care to some of our most vulnerable frail patients and will participate in consultant-led ward rounds, multidisciplinary medication incident review group, clinical guideline development, and support the directorate lead to ensure key governance priorities are met around high-risk drugs, polypharmacy, frailty and falls risk reduction in a growing elderly population.
