Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesYou will contribute to the maintenance and development of the immunophenotyping section within the Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service. Working experience of flow cytometry and immunophenotyping in the context of haematological malignancy would be desirable. The post offers excellent opportunities to participate in training and to start developing managerial skills. You will join a team dedicated to providing a service at the 'cutting edge' of diagnostic capability.

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • HCPC registration BSc or equivalent

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD Study towards IBMS specialist portfolio


ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Experience in all routine areas of Haematology at trainee grade or above Able to interpret blood film morphology

Desirable criteria
  • Specialised investigations Able to interpret bone marrow morphology Use of flow cytometry in cellular analysis Use of Laboratory information systems Use of Microsoft Office products


KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • The role of Haematology in an NHS Foundation Trust Computer literate Health and safety procedures Understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for service, quality and audit Awareness of the clinical implications of pre and post analytical errors.


SkillsEssential criteria
  • Able to work both in a team and as an individual Ability to work in an organised manner and to high standards Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and precision Skills to undertake a range of Haematology investigations Ability to multi-task Manual dexterity Ability to concentrate for long periods The ability to problem solve and troubleshoot Effective verbal and written communication

Desirable criteria
  • Ability to cope under pressure Presentation skills Ability to organise unqualified staff
