Job Description

Main duties of the job

The multidisciplinary team consists of a diverse range of staff including nursing, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, speech and language therapy, art psychotherapy and administrative staff. The MDT work across both inpatient and community services. The unit has embraced the use of technology by using online interpreters and have installed media walls in patient bedrooms delivering accessible information in BSL. The JDU was shortlisted for GMMH Team of the Year Award and has previously won awards in the category of "Caring". It has consistently achieved very high scores in the Friends & Family reviews.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To provide medical assessment and treatment to inpatients and outpatients. The post holder will be supported by interpreters.
  • To participate in the assessment of new referrals to the National Centre for Mental Health and Deafness and to carry a small outpatient load. Appropriate clinical supervision will be provided.
  • The post holder will provide regular mental state examinations, review medication and facilitate multidisciplinary team working.
  • The post holder will receive regular weekly supervision from an identified Consultant.
  • The post holder will attend relevant meetings, admission and discharge meetings, staff group meetings and the community meetings as part of the wider staff team at the JDU.
  • To be responsible for the maintaining of medical notes of clients being treated by the Service and for the preparation of discharge summaries and other communications to GP and others when a client is discharged from the Service and risk management planning.
  • The post holder must ensure that care delivery is in accordance with relevant professional guidance and current legislation.
  • The post holder will ensure that the Service operates within the locally agreed guidelines for the Care Programme Approach.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the information gathering requirements of the Trust, including direct inputting into the Paris Clinical Information System.
  • In accordance with the Trust's Risk Management Policy the post holder will be expected to report incidents/accidents in accordance with the Policy and provide oral/written reports as required.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in Service development by undertaking audits.
  • The post holder will be encouraged and supported to attend academic meetings within the Trust and the JDU.

Person specification

Essential
Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Experience In Multidisciplinary team working
  • At least two years experience or training in Psychiatry
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills


Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych Part 1, Part 2 or equivalent
  • Section 12 approval
  • Experience in teaching different professional groups, including medical students
  • Experience in the field of Deaf Metal Health Care
  • •Demonstrate a commitment to inter-agency working
  • •Experience in clinical audit and research
  • •Ability to communicate using British Sign Language (BSL)
