Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Attend monthly financial meetings with budget holders to review the financial position, and to liaise with them regularly to update forecasts, provide ad hoc analysis and discuss financial queries which are often complex and/or sensitive.

Discuss with budget holders performance against budget and to work with them to help identify the causes of variances and to suggest possible corrective action.

Provide financial support, costings and advice to managers, including advice on Standing Financial Instructions, Financial Procedures and the Budget Holder Guide, including advice on complex financial and corporate issues to non-financial managers.

Coordinate own work and liaise with Management Accounts Assistants in the department to prepare monthly accounts.

This will involve maintaining and updating financial systems for the post holder's
Care Group within set deadlines including as appropriate:
• Accruals and Prepayments
• Recharges in and out (where necessary liaising with external organisations)
• Agency Accruals
• Staff payroll monitoring and coding
• Coding of non-pay invoices
Produce monthly budget statements, variance analysis, Quality Performance Review report and
associated monthly budgetary information in conjunction with the Finance Business Partner.Attend and present financial information at Care Group Team Meetings.

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria

  • Part qualified CCAB (or professionally recognised equivalent)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Significant experience working in financial management
  • Experience of working in finance in a large, complex organisation
  • Experience of preparing monthly accounts including variance analysis, accruals and prepayments, and forecasting

KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS accounting policies, procedures
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial systems & costing methodologies
  • Computerised accounting systems
  • Appreciation of operational issues

SkillsEssential criteria
  • Work under pressure and meet conflicting pressures
  • Able to work with other professions and liaise where required with multidisciplinary teams
  • Able to interpret financial/numerical data and complete trend analysis
