Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Act independently as a Team Leader and work according to local procedures and guidelines. Allocate and check work of technicians, assistants in your team, referring to the Principal Technician for further assistance, guidance and support.
To perform in-process checks for drugs, consumables, worksheets and labels.
To prepare exemption under Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968 Cytotoxic, CIVAS, Total Parental Nutrition (TPN) and other aseptic formulations according to Standard Operational Procedures.
To manage the daily planning and organisation of workload & staff within your team to ensure a prompt and responsive service, adhering to all national, regional and departmental standards.
To rotate yourself and your team between CIVAS, TPN and Chemo according to demand.
Participate with the Principal Technician in the preparation of a staff roster for aseptic work. Adhere to the staff work roster and ensure that there is appropriate re-organisation of your team at times of planned and unplanned staff absence.
Receive prescriptions; check for accuracy; check for legal requirements; ensuring that prescriptions are received in adequate time and that work is completed in priority order. Entering patient details on computerised record system from such prescriptions.
Prepare worksheets; produce labels; assemble equipment and drugs in preparation for production.
To participate in the outsourcing of dispensed items.
Participate in the general organisation of the Pharmacy Aseptic Suite to ensure that there is a safe and effective workflow and the Aseptic Suite is always neat and tidy.
Perform routine environmental monitoring and ensure it is done in accordance with our procedures and current MHRA standards.
To maintain safe systems of work when preparing aseptic products as defined under statutory legislation, COSHH, national and regional standards, control assurance due to the hazardous nature of the routine products.
To ensure security of stocks of drugs and materials for production of pharmaceutical products. To maintain adequate stocks of drugs, fluids and disposable equipment, within the aseptic department, ensuring the correct receipt and storage of medicines in regard to temperature, stock rotation and tidiness.
To perform regular documented observations of staff within the cleanroom adhering to GMP.
Maintains broth test compliance and participates in production schedules as necessary.
Contribute to the induction and in-house training of staff of all grades, in aseptic technique and daily organisation, demonstrating the high levels of dexterity and accuracy required.
To participate in the maintenance of up to date training records for technical staff.
To perform as an Aseptic pharmacy technician "authorised accuracy checker", maintaining an appropriate level of competency
To be responsible for ensuring the safe handling, storage and transport of products at all times within the Trust.
Responsible for ensuring the appropriate regulations relating to the use of Unlicensed Medicines are followed.
To ensure ingredients and disposables are assembled, disinfected and transferred into and through the Aseptic Unit appropriately
To aseptically dispense products accurately to their specification, in accordance with SOP's
To pre-order and manage chemotherapy regimes via assigned manufacturing units. Communications and Relationships
Promotes team working within the Aseptic Services team.
Keeps team informed of changes throughout preparation sessions.
To be self-motivated and committed as a team leader promoting staff development and to support all levels of staff working in accordance with local SOP's and guidelines
Ensures that essential information is communicated effectively to all aseptic staff and customers and to other pharmacy staff in a timely manner.
To act as a professional role model and develop positive relationships with key personnel both internally and externally to the department.
To work with the Prinicipal Pharmacy Technician to ensure the aseptic service is organised and runs efficiently ensuring effective communication occurs to ensure all staff are up dated with changes which may affect capacity.
Liaises with wards and departments regularly to ensure patients treatments are provided in a timely manner.


Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • • BTEC in Pharmaceutical science or equivalent
  • • NVQ 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent
  • • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • • Accuracy checking qualification


Experiance Essential criteria
  • • Previous Aseptic experience
  • • Understanding of hospital pharmacy environment
  • • Understanding of working effectively within mul
