Job Description

Main duties of the job
  • Provide RC responsibility to patients in PICU
  • Provide clinical leadership to the MDT
  • Co-work with operational managers and engage in clinical effectiveness forum to improve the quality of patient care
  • Engage with the medical leaders within the organization and engage in quality improvement work
  • Provide clinical/ educational supervision to trainees
  • Participate in clinical governance activities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care to the 8 inpatients and medical leadership to the Chaucer ward team, as well as supporting and contributing to the management and development of the ward functioning.
  • They will be responsible for assessing patients in prisons following a referral from the prison when they deem a patient to be suitable for a PICU setting.
  • Occasionally, they will be providing RC responsibility for patients secluded in Copeland Ward (rehabilitation ward) when this is used as the last resort due to lack of seclusion beds in the trust or nationally.
  • The post holder will work with the Home-Based Treatment Team and Care Coordinators from the three Community Mental Health Teams in Salford, to facilitate discharge, and provide an alternative to inpatient admission.
  • The post holder will be encouraged to attend the weekly MRCPsych teaching course at least 4 times a year. This is the weekly academic course for trainees which constitutes of a case conference, journal club, and expert teaching.
  • The post holder will be encouraged to engage in teaching and training of various members of the multidisciplinary team and provide supervision to members of the team after emergency assessments when required post-holder will be given the opportunity to apply to become a CT1 to CT3, and ST4 to ST6 trainer and will be provided with access to the required training for these.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the senior on-call rota pro rata, this rota is currently 1 in 14. This will be on the third tier of on-call. The second tier involves doctors who are Section 12 approved. The on-call covers General Adult and Older Adult psychiatry.

Essential criteria
  • Possession of MBBS/ MBChB


Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Qualification of higher degree in medical qualification


Eligibility
Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months
  • Section 12 (2) Approval under Mental Health Act 1983 or be eligible for approval within 3 months
  • Approved clinician status or to be eligible for approval within 3 months


Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Experience in detention of patients under the MHS (1983).
