Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • BSc degree in an appropriate biological science or equivalent qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • Training in an accredited medical genetics laboratory Professional registration with the AHCS or HCPC


ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Experience of commonly used genomic testing methods e.g. PCR, DNA extraction, G-banding Experience of specialised medical genomic methods e.g. mutation analysis, Next Generation Sequencing, chromosome analysis, FISH, Microarray. Working with patient samples in a clinical genetics laboratory, or an equivalent research laboratory environment

Desirable criteria
  • Analysis and interpretation of laboratory genomic data


KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety issues Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control and quality management systems. Good understanding of patient confidentiality and ethical issues.

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic clinical aspects of testing


SkillsEssential criteria
  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods and able to work under pressure Good organisation and time management skills Good at team working Computer literate - able to use MS Office applications Good verbal and written communication

Desirable criteria
  • Communicating with external suppliers
