    QUICK - SIMPLE - SAFE

    Consultant Phychiatrist

Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England

Mental health problems in older people are increasingly being recognised as a major health issue. Increased life expectancy in recent years has resulted in a growing demand for old age psychiatry services.

ID Medical is recruiting an experienced, flexible consultant psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry (female inpatient), to fill a full-time position at this NHS trust in Hull - applicants who wish to work on a part-time basis will also be considered.

You will be responsible for managing acute care (working age patients) on the female treatment unit, consisting of 18 beds. A proportion of patients are complex and challenging with personality disorders and/or substance misuse, therefore experience in this area would be of an advantage.

You will also have two sessions allocated to work with a special interest which will be decided by the post holder and the Trust

Core duties of the position will include:

In fulfilling the clinical duties of the post, the consultant will be expected to undertake the following:

  • To contribute to multidisciplinary and multi-agency team working arrangements within the service. In line with new ways of working, you will provide a consultative role to the inpatient team, as well as working closely with acute care consultants. You will be responsible for tribunal reports and attending at mental health review tribunals, and will develop close working links with all community teams and inpatient staff.
  • To hold responsible clinician status, and be an approved clinician as defined within the Mental Health Act for patients.
  • To work within the principles of the care programme approach and new ways of working providing medical leadership to the inpatient team. You will work accordingly to the inpatients operational policy, which was accepted by colleagues and the acute care forum.
  • You will be expected to work flexibly with colleagues to enable the smooth running of the service, and to ensure the most appropriate care is provided to each individual patient.
  • To participate in clinical governance activities including clinical audit and risk management to continuously improve the quality of care provided for the inpatient.

  • To participate in the general adult consultant on-call rota. On some nights, there will be a SPR/ST4-6 or associate specialist first on-call, three junior doctors' rotas and a comprehensive crisis resolution home treatment service, which provides a triage service for referrals.

These duties are subject to review from time to time in light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required, these will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Trust.

    Benefits with ID Medical:
